Bosch Parade
The “Bosch Parade” is a yearly event held in honour of the famous dutch painter Jheronimus Bosch. It’s a floating art parade with a wide range of different disciplines, each with their own interpretation of one of the paintings by Bosch.
When I was asked if I was interested to participate I immediately knew I wanted to do something with mechanical propulsion. I took my inspiration quite liberal and decided to focus on a tiny legged fish found in one of the paintings. For me it symbolizes a link between the organic and mechanical world. After some long brainstorm sessions I came up with a general idea for a kind of kayak/breast crawl hybrid machine. After making a lot of sketches, models, simulations and prototypes(see “uitvindertje spelen”) I finally settled on the design.
The building was a huge undertaking but with some late nights and early mornings I managed to get it all done. Everything is made from meranti hardwood coated in a liberal amount of lacquer. I don’t have any real woodworking experience so the whole project was a lot of trial and error.
A short video clip showing the motion up close.
